Dear Citizens and Neighbors of Watchung,

The Borough of Watchung has received a piece of steel taken from the wreckage of the World Trade Center from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for use in a September 11^th Memorial in Watchung.  A committee of local volunteers is beginning to plan a fitting setting for this historically significant item and would appreciate your ideas and support.

The dimensions of the piece of steel provided to Watchung are 6 inches by 5 inches by 1 inch thick (The attached picture is of the actual piece).  There are many conceptual and practical decisions to be considered regarding how best to incorporate this piece of American history into Watchung’s Village Green for this and future generations.

The committee would appreciate any comments, ideas, and/or sketches (size 8-1/2” x 11” preferred) that will help to create a memorial that will enhance the beauty of our public space, and also provide a lasting reminder of the citizens of Watchung and all those people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, all the brave and tireless Emergency Responders, and the entire generation of Americans that endured this national tragedy.
