Green Building

Green home remodeling a residence can be one of the most eco-friendly choices a homeowner can make. Choosing green building offers opportunities to reduce energy consumption, lower maintenance costs, and improve comfort and indoor air quality—all while being cost-effective. As Watchung is an older community, approaching the 100th anniversary of incorporation, many older homes could benefit from incorporating green building concepts in maintenance and renovations. Some strategies include investing in durable and energy efficient appliances, installing a water filtration system, or using ceiling fans. More ways to incorporate green building practices can be found on this online manual from Rutgers, the U.S. Green Building Council website, and from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) REGREEN Guidelines.

Watchung has endorsed the adoption of green building practices through resolution R10, passed 2024, to “create a more sustainable community by incorporating green building measures into the design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings.”
